KAIZER CHIEFS FANS ATTACK ARTHUR ZWANE

As previously reported by The South African last Saturday, the Amakhosi head coach was attacked on the face with a thrown object after losing 1-0 to SuperSport United on Saturday in Rustenburg.

According to MTNFC reporter Mark Gleeson, Zwane was hit by a flying bottle and cut underneath the eye before receiving medical treatment.

“Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane was hit by a flying bottle and cut underneath the eye amid ugly scenes at the end of the loss to SuperSport United at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in the DStv Premiership on Saturday,” Gleeson reported.

“Zwane and his players were subjected to a barrage of missiles from angry supporters after they lost 1-0, ending any hope they might have of finishing in the top three and booking a place in African club competition next season.

“Zwane needed treatment after the game and missed the obligatory post-match press conference.

“He was hit as he entered the tunnel heading towards the change-room where supporters hung overhead, and Zwane and his players were easy targets for those throwing objects at them. Police moved quickly to try and shepherd the players to safety, but did nothing to try and clear the angry fans,” the report added.

ZWANE BREAKS THE SILENCE

Following a week since the ordeal, Zwane has opted to focus solely on the game, rather than the attack.

“I’m looking forward to the game [against Cape Town City]. We never stop hunting as long as you are part and parcel of Kaizer Chiefs,” said Zwane via FARPost.

“We always play to win and we want to finish the season on a high. We’ve had our ups and downs. We had moments where we were happy to see things come our way.

“And we also had moments that gave us sleepless nights in terms of not getting the results and also the number of injuries.

“So it’s been a learning season, a very difficult one but also a season that one can say from a new squad and new technical team, it was not bad at all. We are looking to improve things and get better,” the Chiefs tactician concluded.
