Chiefs legend gives surprise comment on retirement

Kaizer Chiefs fans adored Siphiwe Tshabalala as one of Amakhosi’s greatest-ever players since the likes of Doctor Khumalo and Thabo Mooki. Has “Shabba” retired? He has said no.

KAIZER CHIEFS: SIPHIWE TSHABALALA NOT RETIRED
Speaking to the media in the past week, the Soweto-born star said he has yet to hang his boots at the age of 38, though he remains without a club since leaving AmaZulu in 2021.
“Not yet retired,” Shabba said via iDiskiTimes.
“But once that moment comes I’ll let you know,” he added.

DEVELOPMENT WORK
The former Free State Stars and Erzurumspor winger also took the moment to reveal his development work that helped unearth Chiefs’ new junior talents like Mduduzi Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi.
“I’m very involved with my foundation, which we launched back in 2013. We’ve been focussing on sports development and also integrating education and also life skills as well,” Shabba said.

“That’s my space, that’s my role that I’m playing in sport development. We’ve had so much success over the years. There are three players that are now playing in the Nedbank Cup that played in [our] tournament two years ago, if not last year, including the coach.
“We got Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, those are the players, we gave them a platform to stay. They are also students, we helped them with bursaries as well.

“There are programs where we also help coaches, in terms of going to coaching courses as well. It’s a holistic program where we are trying to help,” the Chiefs icon concluded.
