Kaizer Chiefs: Three possibilities on Stuart Baxter’s future this week

No man in Mzansi wants to be Stuart Baxter right now. Here are three things that could happen with the Kaizer Chiefs coach this week.

Kaizer Chiefs, Stuart Baxter, and Amakhosi fans are in one of the club’s darkest ever times. The Brit’s future can’t be any more uncertain than it is now.

STUART BAXTER AND KAIZER CHIEFS: THE WEEK AHEAD

With the shock 1-0 loss to SuperSport United on Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs marked only one victory in four matches. The club’s supporters have in fact been on Baxter’s back since the start of the season. The major complaint has been that Baxter ‘is too defensive.’

Losing games has only made it incredibly worse for the 68-year-old coach. As The South African reported on Sunday, the boiling point was reached as fans chanted ‘Baxter must go’ on Saturday evening.

Here are three possible outcomes for Baxter in the coming week:

1. Sacking

Kaizer Chiefs’ management pride themselves as one of the most patient clubs when it comes to sticking behind coaches when the chips are down. However, clubs, including Chiefs, sometimes have to manage supporters’ unrest by sacking a coach prematurely. Read Giovanni Solinas, Gavin Hunt, and Steve Komphela.

It should therefore not come as a massive shock if the club makes a big announcement on Baxter this week or even today, Sunday.

2. Resignation

The second possibility could see Baxter deciding to simply step down in order to put an end to the toxic atmosphere inside the club, in public, and in the stadiums in the coming games.

3. One more match

Another solution Kaizer Chiefs may look to could be using the upcoming trip to Stellenbosch FC this weekend. Management and Baxter might count on a massive performance to ease the pressure.
