Chiefs later appointed Head of Youth Cavin Johnson as interim coach. After two games in charge against Golden Arrows (2-1 loss) and a 3-2 win over Cape Town Spurs, Johnson revealed that his heart is in retaining the academy job to develop young players.

Meanwhile, reports claimed that Amakhosi have found a list of four head coach targets:

  1. Raul Caneda
  2. Pitso Mosimane
  3. Muhsin Ertugral
  4. Nasreddine Nabi.

PITSO MOSIMANE THE FAN-FAVOURITE

With a South African ID and as the only PSL coach with a record of five league titles, Mosimane is logically the fan’s favourite.

But it does not look easy.

1. Pitso salary

Chiefs are understood to be experiencing financial curbs. After earning massive US dollar salaries at Al Ahly, Al Ahly Saudi and Al-Wahda, Pitso may be a bit too expensive to afford.

2. Pitso’s technical team salaries

After rejecting the Tunisian Nasreddine Nabi for wanting to arrive with his own technical assistants, Pitso also has his five-man entourage of technical support. Paying them will cost plenty of Rands.

3. Transfer demands

As with many top coach around the globe, Mosimane loves to make transfer decisions and sign high-quality players. Will Chiefs be able to meet his transfer demands?

4. Outspoken

Amakhosi, as with many leading teams around the world, prefer to have coaches with a diplomatic media style and personality, especially when the pressure is high with things not going so well. Pitso is a man who approaches the media with his heart on his sleeve.
