Chiefs make decision on soccer balls

It’s a great time for the folks at Kappa South Africa. Mzansi’s most-followed club – Kaizer Chiefs – will play with notable balls.

Following Kaizer Chiefs’ mega-deal with Kappa South Africa last year, the Amakhosi will be going all-Kappa this season.

KAIZER CHIEFS HOMES GAMES WITH KAPPA BALLS

After seeing one or two of these unfamiliar but distinct soccer balls on social media, the Glamour Boys have made a decision that will please Kappa SA.

The Soweto giants will play all 15 home games with Kappa balls, as reported by iDiski Times.

“Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed they will use their own Kappa-designed match balls in each of their 15 home games in the DStv Premiership this season,” the report said.

“Amakhosi and Kappa have reunited after their previous partnership between 1988 and 1996, and the club’s technical sponsor doesn’t only supply match kits, training gear and lifestyle apparel, but also a new bespoke ball – the KAPPA KAIZER CHIEFS PLAYER 20.1E AM SOCCER BALL.”

Meanwhile, Molefi Ntseki’s side will begin the season at home to Chippa United on Sunday. Kick-off is set for 15:00 at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

NEW YOUNGSTER SPOTTED AT NATURENA

In other news, Chiefs fans could have a new youngster to fall in love with. A new talent has been spotted with the Amakhosi senior team.

Following the departures of Erick Mathoho and Thabani Dube, while Edmilson Dove has seemingly moved to left-back, Amakhosi have apparently promoted Siyabonga Gumede.

The 19-year-old central defender was spotted with the senior team on Wednesday, where he is expected to be the understudy to the likes of Thatayaone Ditlhlokwe, Njabulo Ngcobo and Given Msimango.

Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys will begin the new season at home to Chippa United in Durban on Sunday 6 August.

WINGER LEAVES CHIEFS FOR STELLENBOSCH

It’s become official. Chiefs’ speedy winger Kgaogelo Sekgota has left Naturena. His new home is Stellenbosch FC.

Amakhosi and Stellebosch FC’s connection has continued. Sekgota is going to wear maroon this season.

The former Bidvest Wits and Moroka Swallows winger was announced in the Cape Winelands. The 26-year-old has left Soweto despite making 24 appearances in gold and black last season.

“Stellenbosch Football Club is delighted to announce that the club has acquired the services of South Africa international Kgaogelo Sekgota,” Stellies announced on Saturday morning.

“Sekgota is a massive signing for us,” the club’s head coach Steve Barker said.

“He’s a player who we earmarked a while back to try and get into the club, so we are delighted that he has now signed with us.

“He’s an exciting attacking player who has good pedigree, having represented his country, and who has the ability to go past players, to create opportunities for his teammates, and to score goals himself.

“We are looking for a massive impact from him and hope to help him get his career back to where it belongs, which is right at the top end of the game,” Barker added.

Meanwhile, the Seshego-born star marked his debut for Stellies against Orlando Pirates on Saturday at 20:00 in the Winelands.
