Gavin Hunt shocked by Chiefs decision

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has revealed a decision that surprised him before he joined Amakhosi in 2020.

Kaizer Chiefs have been involved in so many big coaching decisions over the past eight years, one of those did not make sense to Gavin Hunt.

HOW KAIZER CHIEFS SURPRISED GAVIN HUNT

While it was a moment that opened an opportunity for the 59-year-old coach to join the Glamour Boys, the four-time DStv Premiership champion was perplexed by Chiefs’ decision to sack Ernst Middendorp in September 2020.

According to Hunt, releasing a coach that lost the league title in the last 15 minutes of the season did not make sense.

“When I went in there, they had just come second by 15 minutes,” Hunt said to Onside, as shared by @SirTshemedi via X.

“So I was quite surprised that Ernst got the bullet…

“Chiefs phoned me after they had fired Ernst, which I thought was unbelievable… coming second like that. And I went in there…” Hunt added before explaining how the club went on to disappoint him greatly.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi will return to action this weekend after a two week break.

Molefi Ntseki’s Chiefs side will be hosting Durban giants AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium on Saturday at 18:00 in the Carling Knockout last 16.
