Jersey number: New Chiefs signing 

Kaizer Chiefs’ most recent signing is nearing his debut. Luke Fleurs, a former Bafana Bafana defender, has been spotted with a jersey number.

Kaizer Chiefs have a new signing that is yet to make his debut. Here’s the latest on the former Bafana Bafana and SuperSport United defender Fleurs.

Following his departure from SuperSport last September, the 23-year-old defender with three Bafana Bafana caps, began his trial with Amakhosi at Naturena last October.

The Soweto giants soon decided to sign the former Ubuntu FC central defender on a two-year deal.

“Luke Fleurs signs for Amakhosi! Kaizer Chiefs have fortified their defensive unit with the signing of Under-23 international, Luke Fleurs, on a two-year contract, with an option for a further season. Welcome to the family!” the Glamour Boys announced.

The latest update on his move the subject of his jersey number. The Mitchells Plain-born star was seen with jersey number 26.

DEBUT ON THE WAY

Meanwhile, Fleurs is yet to make his debut since making the move three months ago. According to coach Cavin Johnson, Fleurs has put in the work and is looking very sharp.

“Luke is very close as far as that is concerned. Yes, he came in probably three quarters to the season as a free agent and you know he had to work very hard to get himself a club,” Johnson told The Sowetan.

“And he got Chiefs as his next destination and when he started at the village, he had to work very hard. But since we closed in December for those few weeks, he has come back looking a lot fresher.

“And now that we started training, Luke is looking very sharp.

“He brings different types of defenders, central defenders and he gives us a lot of options as far as how we like to play as Chiefs.

“So, we are hoping that he brings more in the game and we just reap from what we worked,” the Chiefs tactician concluded.
