Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly narrowed their managerial search to two names. What determines the next step and why is Pitso Mosimane not signed and sealed?

Kaizer Chiefs new manager: What we know

TS Galaxy boss Sead Ramovic is the latest man to rule himself out of the running despite stating that Chiefs ‘are the most beautiful club in SA’ last week. Jose Peseiro, Alexandre Gallo and Manqoba Mngqithi have also been tenuously linked to the role but nothing materialised. According to the newest reports, a meeting at Kaizer Chiefs has determined Pitso Mosimane and Alexandre Santos to be the final names in the hat.

“To tell you the truth, there are many meetings going on now at the club concerning the coaches. But the latest is that the likelihood of Pitso Mosimane and Alexandre Santos will be one of the coaches,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

“I am telling you that the committee looking at who the coach could be has narrowed their net to these two. Here is the catch or the problem. Who will be available at the start of the seasons? Will Petro de Luanda release Santos or will Abha Club hold onto Pitso if he avoids relegation with them in Saudi Arabia? It will all boil done to availability and also affordability,” the source added on the Kaizer Chiefs meeting.

“You know coach Pitso normally comes with his team and we understand Santos also has other technical team members he wants to come with. That’s where the issue of affordability comes in. Which of the two will the club [Kaizer Chiefs] afford? But as it stands, the fight is between the two of them now,” the source added.

“That’s what they want. A coach who will command respect of players, technical team and everyone at the club. And they feel if it comes to that then Pitso has that. But will he be available? Let’s wait for what his club will say first. Yes, his contract ends at the end of the season but what if they renew if he avoids relegation? Then Alexandre Santos remains the favourite in that case,” a second source reported on the Kaizer Chiefs plans.

Pitso Mosimane is relegated with Abha

In another relevant twist, Pitso Mosimane couldn’t save Abha from Saudi Pro League relegation after rock-bottom Al Hazm defeated them on the final day of the season. Jingles won’t be signing a new deal with Abha, but that’s no guarantee he’ll be available to manager Amakhosi. Does this make Santos the favourite?
