Kaizer Chiefs have depth in central defence but one forgotten man is experiencing a renaissance in the first team.

Kaizer Chiefs open the door for Ngcobo?

The arrival of Luke Fleurs has added to Amakhosi’s options in defence. The ex-SuperSport man not only adds youth but also versatility to a backline needing a bit of variety. For the most part this season, coach Ntseki has opted for Given Msimango and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe as a first-choice pairing. However, Njabulo Ngcobo was interestingly selected to start against Sekhukhune with Msimango on the bench. Ngcobo kept his place for the club’s surprise home defeat to Cape Town City in the club’s most recent match before the break.

NEW DEAL ON THE TABLE

According to SoccerLaduma, the club isn’t against offering Ngcobo a new deal. His recent run of starts is also an indication that he’s still an important part of the first-team furniture at Naturena. It will be interesting to see who gets the nod when Chiefs face AmaZulu in the Telkom knockout this weekend, and then the following weekend against Golden Arrows in the league.
