Despite their dominance of the local scene since the PSL era kicked off in the 1996/97 season, incredibly, Mamelodi Sundowns have never completed a league double over Amakhosi.

However, a win this weekend would put that record to ‘bed’ after Masandawana trounced the Glamour Boys 4-0 earlier this season at Loftus Versfeld.

On the other hand, Kaizer Chiefs completed the double over Mamelodi Sundowns FOUR times in the following seasons: 2001/02, 2003/04, 2008/09 and 2011/12.

However, in only one of those seasons (2003/04) did Kaizer Chiefs go on to win the title – and in none of those seasons did Mamelodi Sundowns reign supreme.
