As has been widely reported, Chiefs have been on the hunt for a new coach after the club fired Molefi Ntseki in October, but despite the fact that the search is clearly expanding beyond South African borders, it appears that they have still been unable to find the right man for the job.

A variety of different people have already been linked with the job, but there may not necessarily be a huge rush to replace caretaker coach Cavin Johnson until Chiefs are certain that everything is in order.

As it is, with Chiefs have shown clear signs of an encouraging resurgence towards the end of last year, it’s now reported by The Citizen that Johnson is set to continue at the helm of the side, and may even bag a permanent role if the team finishes the season on a high.

“With the way things have gone towards the end of last year, I don’t see coach Cavin going back to being the head of the academy. He has managed to bring back the smile to the management and most importantly the supporters,” a source was quoted as saying.

“Even though the search for the new coach continues, the Chiefs bosses believe coach Cavin is the right man for the job. It’s still early days, but the signs are there. They believe he is the perfect person to bring back the club to where it’s supposed to be. I think what makes them believe in him is that he has been in football for a long time and knows exactly what’s lacking at the club and what is required to make things right.”

Chiefs ponder prospects

Last year, Kaizer Chiefs chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung also confirmed in an interview on SportsLIVE that they have not yet succeeded in their search for any suitable candidate to take over from Johnson.

“Any coach that comes in needs to be given time,” he remarked. “You cannot bring a coach and expect results immediately and think you’ll win the league in the next season.”

“A few names have been identified, but there are no coaches available at the moment,” he added. “We have put a process in place for us to deal with the new coach we want to bring in.

“The process is underway, and he will be unveiled at the right time. Any coach that we bring must have a pre-season training. It’s sad, but everything has got its own time.”

Good addition for Chiefs

Meanwhile, as Chiefs look to bolster their management ranks in the hopes of turning the team’s fortunes around, it’s reported that Yusha Said, a well traveled analyst who worked with Pitso Mosimane at Al Ahly, is reportedly on his way to Naturena.

“He has resigned, and he’s going to Kaizer Chiefs,” a source told FARPost regarding Said who was most recently at Swallows FC.

“His role wherever he has worked was to identify strengths and weaknesses to help formulate a game plan using data analysis.

Said is a highly respected performance analyst with plenty of experience across the continent. When serving under Pitso Mosimane, he won the CAF Champions League and the CAF Super Cup.
