KANNEMEYER MAKES BIMENYIMANA PLEA

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly looking to sell Burundi striker Caleb Bimenyimana after signing Ranga Chivaviro from Marumo Gallants. 30-year-old Chivaviro scored 17 goals last season in all competitions, but is still adjusting to his new surroundings.

25-year-old Bimenyimana joined Chiefs at the start of the 2022-23 season on a two-year deal. He scored eight goals in 21 appearances, finishing as the team’s top scorer. David Kannemeyer, who won two DStv Premiership titles during his four-year stint with Chiefs, is appealing to Ntseki to give the big Burundian more opportunities in the side. He believes Caleb can score more goals.

“I think the boy’s first season in the PSL was not that bad,” said Kannnemeyer.

“Many players struggle in their first season, but Caleb showed some good signs and some qualities of a good striker.

“I think he deserves to be given another chance as he knows what is expected from him and I think he has adapted to the Premiership.

“It takes some time for new players and especially from out of the country to fit in and they deserve a fair chance. Many strikers struggle in their debut season in the Premiership and do well in the second one.

“I hope they can give him a chance. But people have their opinion at the end of the day and the coach decides on who he wants in his team.”

The striking dilemma at Kaizer Chiefs

The Glamour Boys scored just 32 goals in 30 league outings last term. They’ve started this campaign slowly, but did beat Cape Town Ciy 2-1 in their last outing to book a place in the MTN8 semi-finals against Sundowns.

Christian Saile, Chivaviro and the in-form Ashley du Preez, who has scored twice in three games, are all vying for a starting berth in attack. Will Ntseki give Bimenyimana the opportunities David Kannemeyer believes that he deserves?
