Kaizer Chiefs latest | Billiat’s fascinating story of how he joined Amakhosi

Kaizer Chiefs talisman Khama Billiat has recalled how his move from Mamelodi Sundowns to Naturena in June 2018 came about.

Kaizer Chiefs talisman Khama Billiat has recalled how his move from Mamelodi Sundowns to Naturena in June 2018 came about.

Billiat had already made up his mind about leaving Sundowns when Chiefs came knocking for his signature.

And Billiat admitted he didn’t know that he would one day get to play for Chiefs, suggesting that he didn’t believe it was happening the day he put pen to paper.

“The day I signed for Kaizer Chiefs, I didn’t know I was going to be here but it was a great move,” Billiat told the Amakhosi TV.

Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung revealed when Billiat was unveiled that he had to board a plane to secure the services of the 30-year-old.

At the time, Motaung said he stopped Billiat while he was preparing to move to an Arab country.

And Billiat has confirmed that he indeed signed with Chiefs while on holiday in Zimbabwe trying to figure out his next move.

“I did sign in Zimbabwe,” confirmed Billiat.

“I was at home enjoying my holiday, trying to figure out what my next move was, and what’s best for me,” he said.

The Warriors international further admitted that he had a couple of offers in front of him but he overlooked them for a move to Chiefs.

“I had a couple of offers but I felt like being at Chiefs really made a lot of people happy, the same way I do still feel,” added Billiat.

Billiat had a high-flying debut season with Chiefs where he scored 14 goals across all competitions to finish as their top goalscorer.

However, his second and third campaigns were marred by injuries, leading to a section of Amakhosi fans questioning his contribution to the club.

Overall, Billiat has contributed 16 goals and 18 assists in 84 competitive matches for the Glamour Boys.
