Kaizer Chiefs: International defender set for medical at Naturena

Kaizer Chiefs are seeking to lock down the services of São Tomé and Príncipe defender Jardel Nazaré, with the player set for a medical.

Nazaré is currently a free agent and has been training at Naturena for some time. It seems he has impressed Kaizer Chiefs’ top brass as he is set to sign on for the club in the coming days.

Kaizer Chiefs can sign Nazaré as he is a free agent but he cannot be registered to play this season and the earliest fans can expect to see him in action would be at the Carling Black Label Cup exhibition.

Nazaré was released by Georgian outfit Saburtalo Tbilisi, at the end of 2020 and has since been in search of a new club. He started his professional career in Portugal and bounced around clubs in the country before accepting an ill-fated move to Georgia where his career stalled and he failed to make a single league appearance.

He is likely to be the beginning of a massive overhaul at Kaizer Chiefs and his arrival could signal the end of the road for the likes of Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Yagan Sasman who have struggled for gametime behind Philani Zulu and Happy Mashiane.

Nazaré came to Kaizer Chiefs attention thanks to the shifts he put in for São Tomé and Príncipe against Bafana Bafana in the recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The chief obstacle to him turning out for Amakhosi next season might be the number of foreign players on the club’s books, with their quota already filled. 

Kaizer Chiefs have been linked with dozens of players in anticipation of their transfer ban being lifted on 1 July 2021. Nazaré will be the first undergo a medical and turn rumours and gossip into an actual signing. We can expect a lot more of this in the coming weeks as well as a string of departure.
