On Friday, the PSL confirmed a charge against Chiefs for ‘fielding two defaulters’ in a DStv Premiership match.

Mduduzi Shabalala and Aden McCarthy formed part of the Amakhosi matchday squad for the encounter against Sekhukhune United on 12 December 2021.

This was because Chiefs were hit by Covid-19 within their camp, and had no enough first team players to honour the fixture.

The duo were unused substitutes on the day but according to the PSL, Chiefs were in contravention with the league’s rules.

According to PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu, both Shabalala and McCarthy were not properly registered for DStv Premiership but for the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC).

KAIZER CHIEFS CHARGED BY THE PSL FOR ‘FIELDING TWO DEFAULTERS’

“I hereby confirm that Kaizer Chiefs has been charged for fielding two defaulters, namely, Aden McCarthy and Mduduzi Shabalala, in a match between themselves and Sekhukhune,” said Majavu in a statement.

“These players were not properly registered for purposes of the DStv Premiership league but were registered for purposes of the reserve league; that is the basis of the allegations which they are facing.

“The matter has been enrolled for hearing on the 14th of April 2022 at 14:00. Once the matter is finalised, I will confirm the outcome of the DC,” concluded McCarthy.
