Kaizer Chiefs identify Siyabonga Ngezana replacement? 

Kaizer Chiefs have made seven signings thus far, two of those being centre backs, but three exiting in that position, there seems to be room for one more.

So far Chiefs have announced, Thathayoane Ditlhokwe, Given Msimango, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Edson Castillo, Pule Mmodi, Ranga Chivaviro and Tebogo Potsane.

Now in order to manage the squad, Chiefs have also seen the likes of Eric Mathoho, Siyabonga Ngezana, Phathutshedzo Nange, Cole Alexander, Khama Billiat all leaving Naturena. Now according to the latest reports, they’re set to release a sixth in the shape of Austin Dube.

Should they do so, Chiefs would then be left with five centre backs in Ditlhokwe, Ztha Kwinika, Msimango, Njabulo Ngcobo and Edmilson Dove. That looks like enough options until you hear suggestions that Dove could be deployed more as a left back this season, which would mean that Amakhosi could end up with four.

This is perhaps why Chiefs are rumoured to be monitoring the situation of Congolese centre back Guy Magema. Magema has just recently parted ways with Congolese giants AS Vita Club and would be available to join the Soweto giants on a free transfer should they be willing to sign him. 

Magema to Amakhosi?

“The focus, however, remains firmly on those who may arrive from outside the club and Transfermarkt.co.za has been informed that it’s likely Chiefs may rope in another foreign player, given the fact that they have foreign spots. The name Guy Magema has been brought up in conversations with our sources.” Wrote Transfermarkt.

At just 27-year-old Magema could be about to reach his peak and therefore, offer Chiefs the best years of his career yet. But it also doesn’t seem like, after having so many options in that position, another centre back is a priority for the club. One way it could quickly become one, is if Amakhosi receive a decent offer for centre back Ngcobo, who is still on the transfer list.
