Kaizer Chiefs must make tough decisions

All three senior goalkeepers at Naturena have contracts expiring in June 2024. Skipper Itumeleng Khune is set to finish his playing career at the end of the current campaign. The 36-year-old is no longer first-choice between the sticks and has featured in five games this term. Will he transition into coaching at the club? Meanwhile, 28-year-old Bruce Bvuma is pondering a new contract offer from the club. As the current third-choice, will he be content sticking around with no playing time? He’s yet to feature in 2023-24.

PETERSEN IS NUMBER ONE UNTIL HE’S NOT

Brandon Petersen joined Amakhosi from Bidvest Wits in 2021. At 29, he’s at his peak and there are also rumours he’s been offered a new deal. He’s made 11 appearances this season across all competitions, keeping four clean sheets but recently lost his place after a series of blunders.

New man in the pipeline?

According to numerous recent reports in local media, Chiefs are looking for a new goalkeeper. 23-year-old goalkeeper Jonathan Ebala Membo is the man in question. Former Amakhosi goalkeeper Eshele Botende has urged the Glamour Boys to push for a move. The Glamour Boys will need to release a foreign player for this move to materialise though, as they’ve already got five foreign players on their books.
