Kaizer Chiefs have baulked at the asking price for one of their long-standing marquee targets. It’s back to the drawing board.

Percy Tau is available, at a steep price

According to KickOff.com, Egyptian side Al Ahly have placed a R36 million price tag on Bafana Bafana wide man Percy Tau. The former Sundowns, Brighton, Anderlecht and Club Brugge attacker has been a key player for Ahly, helping them to nine trophies in his almost three years in Cairo.

“With Percy Tau’s future at Al Ahly seemingly in limbo, just how much the Egyptian giants want for the Bafana Bafana attacker has now reportedly been revealed. Now, however, it is claimed the Red Devils are willing to let go of the 30-year_old, having slapped a price tag of $2 million (about R36 million) on the player, according to Egyptian news site Mobtada, who cited “private sources”.  It has previously been claimed that the former Brighton & Hove Albion star has attracted the interest of DStv Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs.” said the report.

KAIZER CHIEFS GOALKEEPER SEARCH TAKES THEM TO TUKS

According to UnplayableZA on X, Chiefs have inquired about possibly signing Tuks ‘keeper Edward Maova. The 29-year-old Namibian made three appearances in last season’s Nedbank Cup and stands 1.92m tall. He’s only been with AmaTuks for 11 months after joining them from Pretoria Callies in 2023. Is he pedigreed enough to replace Itumeleng Khune?

Huge changes are coming at Naturena

Meanwhile, iDiski Times reporter Lorenz Kohler revealed exactly where Chiefs will look to do their business in the winter window with a striker, a left-back and a goalkeeper as their priority targets. The club has released Siyethemba Sithebe, Keagan Dolly and Sifiso Hlanti. Njabulo Ngcobo follows them out the exit door and will sign a contract with Sekhukhune. George Matlou and Itumeleng Khune are two other players whose contracts expire at the end of June 2024. So far, there’s no clarity of their immediate futures. Jasond Gonzalez is already gone so the club needs a new striker. A younger left-back has been a necessity for a while. With Hlanti’s departure, confirmed, that’s an urgent issue to address.
