Kaizer Chiefs: FOUR contracts unlikely to be renewed

Kaizer Chiefs management must make a decision on six players whose contracts are about to expire. Four players are likely to be heading out of Naturena.

Erick Mathoho, Khama Billiat, Phathushedzo Nange and Cole Alexander are all unlikely to have their contracts renewed, according to iDiskiTimes.

Meaning, they could all be leaving in June. We take a closer look at each players situation.

END OF THE ROAD FOR FOUR CHIEFS STARS?

Mathoho, Billiat, Nange and Cole’s contracts are set to expire in June.

However, Amakhosi management is unlikely to offer any of these players a contract extension.

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Phathutshedzo Nange has confirmed he is fit and ready for action ahead of Amakhosi’s opening DStv Premiership match of the 2021/22 season on Sunday.

Mathoho and Billiat have missed most of the season with injury.

Furthermore, despite both players returning to training this week, we may not see them play for the Soweto giants again.

This is because both men have fallen out of favour with Arthur Zwane. Now, they are both no longer first, or even second choice. In Mathoho’s case, Zitha Kwinika, Siyabonga Ngezana and Edmilson Dove are preferred up front.

While Billiat sits behind the likes of Caleb-Bonfils Bimenyimana, Christian Saile Basomboli, Mduduzi Shabalala, Ashley Du Preez and Keagan Dolly. Unfortunately, new players have come in while Billiat and Mathoho have battled for form and spent large parts of the season out injured.

PACKED AMAKHOSI MIDFIELD NEEDS CUTTING

Amakhosi already have a packed midfield with Yusuf Maart, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Samkelo Zwane and Siyethembe Sithebe preferred in the midfield.

Meaning, for Nange and Alexander, a move is key to their futures if they are to earn regular playing time.

Furthermore, with both players contracts expiring, they are likely to have already played for Amakhosi for the last time.
