Kaizer Chiefs eyeing 100% profit on expensive signing?

If the board can recoup this type of fee, they’ve done well.

Kaizer Chiefs have made one or two errors in the transfer market lately but they can offset that by selling to wealthy buyers abroad.

Du Preez is wanted in Portugal

According to iDiski Timesan unnamed Portuguese team is willing to pay R20 million to Kaizer Chiefs for versatile attacker Ashley Du Preez. That would represent a 100% profit recoup on a player who cost R10 million when he moved from Stellenbosch just under two years ago. That would represent some smart business from the board.

“Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley du Preez has attracted interest from Europe again ahead of the 2024/2025 season. There’s been new interest in Portugal for the former Stellenbosch FC star, with the interested clubs willing to pay double what Chiefs secured him for in July 2022. Amakhosi forked out around R10 million to prize him away from Stellies, while Mamelodi Sundowns were also keen,” wrote the publication.

Amakhosi, somewhat surprisingly, sold Siyabonga Ngezana at the start of the campaign to Romanian giants FCSB, formerly known as Steaua Bucuresti. He won the league title in his debut season there and was named in the Romanian Superlig Team of the Season. FCSB made approaches for Du Preez and Reeve Frosler, but Amakhosi weren’t willing to let go of three senior stars in one window. However, with news of R20 million interest in Du Preez, now might be the right time to sell.

Du Preez is still unconvincing

Since arriving at Naturena in July 2022, it’s still unclear what Ashley Du Preez’s best position is. However, in an injury-hit campaign, he still managed a healthy tally of 23 league appearances with a modest return of four goals and an assist. Since signing for Amakhosi, the 26-year-old has made 59 appearances. In that time he has 15 goals and seven assists.
