Kaizer Chiefs fell to defeat against Chippa United at the weekend with irony everywhere you looked at the final whistle, including pain suffered at the hands of Orlando Pirates.

Chiefs punished by former Orlando Pirates star

Bienvenu Eva Nga, largely regarded as a failure in South African football, enjoyed his moment against Chiefs on Saturday. Chippa re-signed the 31-year-old Cameroonian from Pirates in January after his 18-month spell with the Buccaneers failed to deliver. In his second stint with the Chilli Boys, Eva Nga has made six league appearances for them, scoring once and providing two assists. That goal came against Kaizer Chiefs, his former Soweto Rivals, of all people. The irony doesn’t end there.

Amakhosi with another day to forget

Eva Nga’s opener wasn’t the only damaging moment for Chiefs fans to digest on Saturday. They also saw Kamohelo Mahlatsi, a flop at their club, come off the bench to help Chippa to this result. Perhaps the most ironic thing of all is that Chippa kept a clean sheet without their outstanding goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. The Super Eagles man has long been linked to Chiefs. Now, according to recent reports, the Chilli Boys are waiting for foreign interest to drive his price up.

According to SoccerLaduma, Salim Magoola is now at the top of the Amakhosi goalkeeping shopping list. Their sources believe Ugandan keeper Magoola, on the books of Richards Bay, is a more realistic option than Super Eagles and Chippa stopper Stanley Nwabali. That’s because Chippa want to attract wealthier buyers, and who can blame them?

“The club wanted to sign Stanley (Nwabali) but it seems if he leaves Chippa they would want him to go to Europe and not locally. So the chances of Chiefs getting him are very narrow hence they have inquired about Richards Bay goalkeeper Salim (Magoola),” said the Siya source.

Amakhosi fans, where does this result leave Cavin Johnson? More importantly, where does it leave the club’s chances of finishing inside this season’s top eight of the DStv Premiership? Let us know in the comments.
