Kaizer Chiefs have been put off the scent of Stanley Nwabali because of Chippa United’s high asking price.

Kaizer Chiefs not willing to go that high for Nwabali

According to SoccerLaduma, Soweto Rivals Chiefs and Pirates have been mulling over making an offer for Chippa and Nigriak goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. The 27-year-old was a surprise inclusion at Afcon for the Super Eagles but took the opportunity with both hands if you’ll pardon the pun. He was an ever-present for the eventual runners-up, making seven appearances at the showpiece and keeping four clean sheets. Chippa has slapped a R30 million price tag on the excellent goalkeeper.

“It is no secret that Chiefs have been assessing options for a goalkeeper to potentially join the club next season. Stanley Nwabali is one of the players that the club has been monitoring. They had hoped to lure him in the same way they did with Daniel Akpeyi a few seasons ago.”

“But there seems to be a problem as Chippa are looking to cash in on the player (Nwabali). He did so well at Afcon. He is their prized asset. The club is looking for around R30 million for him and at that value, not many clubs will be able to afford him, especially in South Africa. The good thing for Chiefs is that Bruce Bvuma has been doing well of late, and there’s also Brandon Petersen waiting in the queue for his chance. Both players recently signed contract extensions and Chiefs may just decide to look for someone who’s going to be a back-up in their goalkeeper search – a youngster,” said the source.

Foreign interest?

There have also been reported approaches from English Championship side QPR and Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq. Knowledge of this interest, coupled with Nwabali’s high price tag, is understood to be the two major deterrents for Chiefs.

Meanwhile, according to a report from iDiski Times, it would take R35 million to prize Elias Mokwana, Babina Noko’s jewel in the crown, away from Sekhukhune.

“Sekhukhune United and Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana envisioned this rise while in the ABC Motsepe League and said his R35 million price tag is not of his concern.”

Top management within Sekhukhune is reportedly willing to play hardball. This might invite interest from higher bidders like Sundowns.
