On Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs drew 1-1 at AmaZulu thanks to an injury time equaliser via a controversial Keagan Dolly penalty.

AmaZulu’s Tapelo Xoki was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area despite both arms being behind his back.

Shortly after half-time Luvuyo Memela had given Usuthu the lead.

In an interview with Kaizer Chiefs media department after the match, Baxter said he believes they are close to turning their fortunes around.

“Well, if you have asked me if it was the result I was looking for with 1-0 down with five minutes to play, obviously yes it was. But we are looking to win games and I thought we played well in the first half,” Baxter said.

“What [chances] they had we contributed to that with silly mistakes. They didn’t have many chances.

“We had four super chances where the keeper [Veli Motha] made a couple of unbelievable saves.

“But we made an elementary error. We lost the ball cheaply and there were big spaces between our defenders and we gave away the goal.

“But I hope the supporters understand the journey we are on and I hope they stick with us because I think enough is happening to encourage us and believe that this could be very good if we can shift that 10%.

“It is very early to be looking at the table. The teams at the top, we will play all of them again, so if we can take points from them we [can] close that gap,” Baxter claimed.

“I think it is important for us, the supporters, staff and players to put together a team that has an identity in the way of playing. If we can get that 10%, I tell you we will be difficult to beat,” he concluded.
