Addiotionally, Kaizer Chiefs are also still linked with three South African coaches. The names are Pitso Mosimane, Benni McCarthy and Manqoba Mngqithi.
The club’s Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, confirmed the club will demote Johnson to the development ranks, before announcing a new technical structure for next season.
“It’s something we communicated from the onset — Cavin has stepped in on an interim basis and we’re [committed] to having a different technical structure next season,” Motaung Jr said via TimesLIVE.
“I know we are focused on the next game and the next seven games and we have everything to play for. But yes, definitely the plans have long been in motion — we’ll be having a different technical structure next season,” the former Kaizer Chiefs striker added.
“Like I said, the wheels have been in motion for quite a while now. We’re also not just looking at it as if it’s a one-man coach; we’re looking at it in terms of what we need and we’ll be making all the changes we need to make that are going to take us in the direction we need to go in,” the bosses concluded.
In the meantime, the Kaizer Chiefs team are on the way to Cape Town to bury the late Luke Fleurs in Mitchells Plain. The 24-year-old central defender was shot and killed during a hijacking in Honeydew, Gauteng on 3 April.
The club will then fly to KwaZulu Natal on Sunday to face Richards Bay in the DStv Premiership. The game will start at 15:00 from the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.
