There will be no Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates battle in the first round of the Carling Knockout. Here’s why.

Anticipation is high. Kaizer Chiefs supporters have new hopes for rare cup glory, while Orlando Pirates are straight up confident.

KAIZER CHIEFS AND ORLANDO PIRATES IN THE CARLING KNOCKOUT

As confirmed by the Premier Soccer League this week, the Carling Knockout Cup is here to replace the Telkom Knockout.

According to Carling Black Label SA, the official launch and draw will take place on Tuesday, 10 October, at 13:00 live on SuperSport TV.

NO SOWETO DERBY

Further details have revealed that last season’s top eight teams will be drawn against those that finished in the bottom eight.

This means that the likes of Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates will not be able to draw each other in the first round.

As a fan of one of the Soweto giants, you can expect to face one of last season’s bottom eight: Golden Arrows, TS Galaxy, Royal AM, AmaZulu, Richards Bay, Chippa United, as well as the newcomers Polokwane City and Cape Town Spurs, who replace Marumo Gallants and Maritzburg United respectively.
