How Kaizer Chiefs have betrayed their DNA

Kaizer Chiefs have betrayed their own DNA with the way the club has conducted itself in recent times and they need to find themselves again.

Kaizer Chiefs legend William Shongwe believes that the club has recently betrayed its own DNA.

Shongwe believes that the chopping and changing of coaches isn’t the way the Glamour Boys do business.

Kaizer Chiefs have betrayed their DNA

He felt that some of the changes could be explained but damage has been done to the club.

“In the past, ‘Bra K’ [Dr Kaizer Motaung] has done well in that aspect,” Shongwe told FARPost. “He takes his time [before making coaching changes].

“Even the recent appointment of [ex-Bafana Bafana coach] Ntseki, that was based on the fact that Arthur wasn’t too sure if he has the nerve to carry on having gone through so much pressure.

“The team consulted, it’s not like he was removed because he didn’t perform. Chiefs were still willing, but they kind’a sensed that he might be in a position to continue because the pressure was just too extreme.

“That’s why Ntseki was appointed. So it’s not in the DNA of Chiefs to do that. But the way things happened, it boils down to how safe are the coaches. Some of these decisions are based on the safety of coaches.”

Give him time

Shongwe believes that Kaizer Chiefs need to back their next coach to the hilt and allow him to see through his work with the team.

“Right now, let Chiefs find their man. Even if Cavin does well for me, give him a chance,” Shongwe added.

“If you bring someone else it’ll break what Cavin was doing. Let him build up on that, maybe let’s just throw the season through the window and start planning for next season.”

Chiefs look set to appoint a new coach before the transfer window opens in January.

They want the man coming in to direct transfer business after a few poor windows in the market for the Glamour Boys.
