Bafana Bafana star Sibongiseni Mthethwa was involved in what has been described as a ‘freak accident’.

Unfortunately, this could see him ruled out of upcoming Amakhosi games. Furthermore, his hopes of playing in AFCON have been dealt a blow too.

MTHETHWA INJURED WHILE TRAINING WITH CHIEFS

The Bafana Bafana midfielder injured his ankle during a training session with Amakhosi.

“Ox suffered an ankle injury at training – it was a freak accident,” Cavin Johnson stated on TimesLive.

It is unclear what happened but it must have been out of the ordinary given Johnson’s explanation. Moreover, Amakhosi’s midfielder has been sent for X-rays.

“We sent him for X-rays and things like that. According to the medical team he has to stay out for a bit,”

“Whether he will be back for our next game or AFCON, I cannot say,” he added on the same publication.

FINGERS CROSSED FOR AMAKHOSI AND BAFANA BAFANA

Mthethwa is a key player for Amakhosi and the national side.

Therefore, both Amakhosi and Bafana Bafana will be hoping that it is not serious and that he recovers soon. Especially with AFCON around the corner. The massive African tournament kicks off on 13 January 2024.
