The draw for the semi-finals took place immediately after Kaizer Chiefs’ 2-1 victory over Royal AM in the quarter-finals on Sunday evening, leaving fans, coaches and club bosses on tenterhooks.

Amakhosi were drawn against their sworn rivals Orlando Pirates, while Stellenbosch FC and Sekhukhune United were drawn in the second semi-final.

Visuals from the Chatsworth stadium showed Kaizer Chiefs’ management celebrating upon learning that the semi-final would be a Soweto derby, with the Glamour Boys drawn as the home team.

‘A lot at stake’ – Arthur Zwane

“It’s not going to be as easy as everyone thinks because cup games are totally different to league games,” Zwane said.

“But as I said, we treat every game with respect, and unfortunately, this one is not like any other game. There’s a lot at stake once you meet Pirates, you’re expected to be on top of them and make sure that you win the game,” Zwane told journalists.

Zwane also spoke about the excitement of playing against a strong Orlando Pirates team, saying, “I think the excitement comes from knowing that we’re playing Pirates, that is also doing well, that will be good for South African football as well. You know not only about Chiefs but South African football, with Pirates doing well and we’re also finding our way up.”

“I think it’s going to be one game that’s very good to watch,” he added.

The semi-finals are scheduled to be played on the weekend of 6 and 7 May with further details to be shared in due course.
