Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are keen to sign Bafana Bafana winger Luther Singh. However, there’s stern competition from elsewhere around the globe.

Is Luther Singh weighing up a Soweto return?

According to iDiski Times, Bafana Bafana star Luther Singh is on the radar of both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. The 26-year-old Soweto-born wide attacker hasn’t represented his country in a little under three years.

“We received offers from Egypt, Morocco, Scotland, Sweden, and Major League Soccer. One Soweto club also enquired. The reason we haven’t made the decision is that the offers are not favourable for the player (Singh), we still want to wait a bit. He still wants to play abroad, but if the right deal locally comes, he will take it. The aim is to get back to the national team.” said agent Warren Swartz.

Singh still has plenty to offer

Singh was released by Serbian outfit FK Čukarički at the start of 2024 after making just 14 appearances. Sings has had stints in Portugal, Denmark and Sweden too but never settled for long with one team. He made his Bafana Bafana debut in March 2017 and appeared 13 times for South Africa. The most recent appearance came in World Cup qualifying in 2021 against Zimbabwe.

The Glamour Boys are now five points adrift of Stellies who also have a game in hand over their more illustrious opponents. Amakhosi have just 27 points left to play for and are languishing in seventh place, but can climb the table with a win over the Winelands outfit. Kickoff from FNB Stadium on Tuesday 2 April is at 19:30.

The race for second place is getting tasty

Stellenbosch and Sekhukhune are the surprise frontrunners for a CAF Champions League qualification place. Stellies are in second while red-hot Sekhukhune, fresh off their 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates, trail them by two points but Babina Noko has all the momentum and wind in their sails. They’ve won five league outings in a row since a 1-1 draw with Chiefs on 30 December 2023. Their form since the turn of the year has been scintillating under Lehlohonolo Seema. They must rightly be considered as serious contenders to finish inside the league’s top two. They face Cape Town City next on Tuesday 2 April before a trip to Stellenbosch on Saturday. Their campaign could hinge on this week’s fixtures.
