Former Kaizer Chiefs player Junior Khanye has predicted Mamelodi Sundowns to defend their DStv Premiership title.

The 38-year-old says the team that will challenge Masandawana is Orlando Pirates, with Cape Town City finishing in third place.

Khanye said Downs had the advantage due to the strong foundation and structure they have.

“Pitso has laid a strong foundation and the structure is still solid. Rulani came and complimented it, even though I feel they failed last season. They don’t just sign players because the transfer window is open. They sign players because of the need of those players,” he said.

Khanye says Sundowns will retain the PSL title

Despite winning two trophies last season, Khanye is still not convinced about Orlando Pirates especially their coach Jose Riveiro.

“They’ve got individual brilliance and I’m still questioning Riveiro’s coaching. Yes he has won but I’m still questioning his coaching a lot. Even now I want to see how he’s going to cope in the Champions League,” the former Chiefs winger said.

“I think he’s going to be tested because let’s be honest some teams in the DStv Premiership are easy. Yes, they have a lot of players but their coach, there wasn’t consistency in the starting 11 and you couldn’t even tell the winning team,” Khanye said.

Pirates start off their season this Saturday against Stellenbosch FC.
