Jose Riveiro thanks Orlando Pirates staff for making him feel at home

Orlando Pirates’ new Spanish coach Jose Riveiro has thanked the club’s technical staff for helping him settle at the Soweto giants.

Riveiro has taken over at the Buccaneers for the 2022/23 campaign after co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids were in charge last season.

Ncikazi has stayed on at Orlando Pirates as a coach, while Riveiro’s compatriot Sergio Almenara will fill the role of assistant coach.

The backroom staff also includes goalkeeper coach Tyron Damons, conditioning coach Miguel Bellver Esteve, assistant conditioning coach Percy Moloi, rehabilitation specialist Stephen Plummer and performance analyst Rayaan Jacobs.

“I found a lot of people in the club who are willing to help me, I found a fantastic group in the coaching staff, very good professionals and human beings,” said Jose Riveiro, as quoted by the Citizen.

“The technical staff has been close to me during this period, we also had a chance to spend some time in training camps and those days were profitable in terms of adaptation and understanding the football culture better.”

Orlando Pirates will kick off their 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign at home in a Soweto derby against Swallows FC on Saturday, 6 August.

Kick-off at the Orlando Stadium is scheduled for 15:00.
