It turns out Billiat wasn’t ‘cooking something’ after his Chiefs exit

After ghosting Kaizer Chiefs, Khama Billiat was linked with a move to the Middle East but nothing materialised as the star is still in SA.

Having left Kaizer Chiefs unannounced last year in June, Khama Billiat became the biggest free agent in South Africa and many wondered where the playmaker would play his football next.

Reports linked him with a move to the Middle East but as months went by, it became apparent that the 33-year-old was still in the country searching for a new club.

Billiat was offered a new contract by Amakhosi last year in June, however, the Zimbabwean was unhappy with the offer and never returned the the club.

During his sabbatical, former Chiefs defender Thomas Sweswe told the media that his countrymate was definitely ‘cooking something’.

Did Billiat have a plan after leaving Chiefs?

Last week, Billiat trained with SuperSport United for three days but the Tshwane giants opted not to sign him.

“We are not going to sign him, so it’s pointless to continue training,” said SuperSport United CEO Stanley Mathews told Sunday World.

If he failed to impress Gavin Hunt and his technical team, it could mean that Billiat was never considered in North Africa or the Middle East.

He has yet to open up why he left Chiefs but it doesn’t seem like he had a plan.

“I think he has his own reasons to leave Chiefs. I can’t blame him for that. I will support his decision. You know his last season at Chiefs he was injury prone,” said Sweswe last year.

“I think he wanted to heal first and see his next move. I think he needed this sabbatical leave to figure things out. What I am sure of is that he has something cooking for him.

“Something is coming up. You know he is quiet even on social media. He is not like that so he is cooking something for sure,” said Sweswe.
