Ofori started in goal for Ghana against Bafana Bafana in the FIFA World Cup qualifier back in September, but had to leave the field in the 75th-minute after sustaining a thigh injury, and he has been unavailable for Pirates ever since.

Prior to that injury, the Ghana international had started all three matches that Pirates had played up to that point – one in the MTN8 and two in the league.

After a four-month absence, the Citizen now reports that he has finally come to the end of his injury rehabilitation, and he is expected to be back by the time Pirates play their next DStv Premiership fixture against Golden Arrows on 16 February.

“Things are looking good, Ofori has been working really hard so that he can come back fully fit for the remainder of the season,” a source told Phakaaathi

“It is not a nice feeling to be out for such a long time, look it also happened to Zakhele Lepasa and now he is back. What I can say is that I am certain that he will be available for selection when the league starts in February.

“By the time he got injured he thought he would speedily come back, but it was not the case and he had to understand that. Another thing is that we couldn’t be rushed, you might rush a player and he ends up getting another injury. But everything is going well, he is just disappointed that he is missing the Afcon, but he will be okay and the club’s medical team is doing their best to get him back to his best.”

Pirates are currently second on the log table

Meanwhile, mdifielder Nkanyiso Zungu is willing to consider a loan deal for the remainder of the current DStv Premiership season.

Signed from Stellenbosch in 2020, Zungu has only had limited game-time with Bucs, and his agent Mike Makaab has since confirmed that he could look elsewhere for the time being.

“We are looking at all possibilities for him; yes, we obviously have to get the blessings from Orlando Pirates regarding that.

“I believe that if they don’t have plans to use him for the second half of the season, then they will look at some form of a deal so that he could get game-time elsewhere.

“It will be good for all parties. [At the moment] I’m waiting for Pirates, but listen, we have to do something before the window [closes] based on how the coaching staff is contributing in the next four or five months.”
