“I think knowing Pitso, he has ambitions” – Hunt on Mosimane joining Chiefs

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt believes Pitso Mosimane has bigger ambitions than joining Kaizer Chiefs.

The ex-Mamelodi Sundowns coach left his United Arab Emirates job in November and has since been linked with the Soweto giants.

Hunt wants Mosimane back in the Middle East

Chiefs recently published a statement refuting claims that Mosimane rejected their offer.

Hunt, who coached Amakhosi, was asked by Peter du Toit on ThisisFootball Africa if Mosimane would consider coaching Chiefs.

“Molefi Ntseki had a difficult job, new players, he didn’t get a few results, and you know this business and Cavin(Johnson) came a bit much more experienced and then simplified everything. But is it a long-term thing or a short-term thing?

“I think knowing Pitso, he has ambitions to get into the ‘first world’ league, no disrespect to where he is or where we are. First world league in terms of more publicity, bigger clubs, bigger competition where you go to a game where there are 20-30 000 people a week. I think he wants to be in that space, you know, he has that avenue now,” Hunt said about Mosimane.

Last week, reports suggested that Pitso could be on his way back to Saudi Arabia, ruling him out of the running for the Amakhosi job.

Chiefs are still in the market for a new coach and could be forced to look elsewhere if the former Al Ahli coach moves back to Saudi.

Upon hearing reports that Mosimane could head back to the Middle East, Hunt said he would have done the same.

“If I was him, I’d stay where he is…and try to get a job in Greece. He speaks Greek. Maybe Olimpiakos or Panathinaikos, you’re going to the Champions League,” said the SuperSport United coach.
