Orlando Pirates have officially won four MTN8 titles since the telecommunications company took over as sponsors in 2008.

The Buccaneers bagged their fourth MTN8 title with a 1-0 win over AmaZulu on Saturday night, thanks to Monnapule Saleng’s first half strike.

Their triumph over AmaZulu saw Jose Riveiro’s men walk away with a whopping R8 million while they also get to keep the trophy for life.

Pirates will keep the trophy after it emerged that the sponsors intend to introduce a new trophy in next season’s MTN8 tournament.

ORLANDO PIRATES HAVE BANKED R32 MILLION FROM MTN8

Now, with four titles to their name, Pirates have now banked a staggering R32 million from MTN8 in the last 12 years.

Their first MTN8 title came with R8 million in 2010 before successfully defending the title the following year to make it R16 million.

In 2020, Pirates beat Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 final, and thus, taking their winnings in the competition to R24 million.

With the latest MTN8 triumph, the Buccaneers have now taken their prize money in the competition to R32 million, and no any other team has benefited that much from the current sponsors.
