Mosimane’s Abha side had been battling relegation even before he set foot there, with his objective being achieving survival.

Abha Club relegated

Mosimane came in on a short-term deal, with half the season to go. After many ups and downs, which included heavy defeats to Al-Nassr and Al Ahli, he took it to the last day. On the Saudi Pro League finale, Abha entered already above the relegation zone. All the team needed to do to stay alive was either win or draw, depending on the other results. It seemed as if the stars were aligning as their final opponent was the already relegated Al Hazm

Even though Al Hazm did not have anything to fight for, they certainly fought for their pride on the night. The team took the fight to Abha and ensured they reached the break at 0-0. But coming out of the tunnel, Mosimane seemed to have reminded his players of the task at hand. It did not take long for them to get off the mark after the restart. Ahmed Abdu Jaber put them in the lead in the 47th minute.

Just when Abha would’ve been thinking they had some good momentum, the hosts would not go away. They were able to get a much-needed equaliser in the 58th-minute mark through Gambian forward Muhammed Badamosi. The hosts would then place a late dagger in the hearts of the visitors and Mosimane, with an 80th winner. That would ensure that their opponents on the night joined them in the lower division next season.

Mosimane set to leave

Mosimane will be very disappointed by the outcome, having worked hard to get out of the relegation zone. It is now almost certain that the decorated coach will leave Abha, with his next task a mystery.
