Cape Town City once again showed their attacking prowess with a 4-1 win over Golden Arrows at Ellis Park on Saturday 29 August 2020.

Golden Arrows 1-4 Cape Town City: PSL match report

Cape Town City have been one of the more fluid attacking sides since the restart and they started really quickly.

Fagrie Lakay has been in excellent form since the restart and he found the back of the net inside ten minutes to give Cape Town City the lead. He pounced on a mistake from Arrows defender Lunga in the box and poked home the opening goal.

Lakay is clearly brimming with confidence and that showed when he took on a strike at goal from outside of the box and a wicked deflection gave the keeper no chance and City a 2-0 lead in the 12th minute.

Cape Town City enjoyed great success down their right flank and they should have gone up by three but Lakay’s shot was smothered.

Surprise Ralani laid on a great opportunity for Mdantsane but he hit his shot straight at Mlungwana.

City enjoyed a 2-0 lead at half-time but looked likely to add to their tally.

Half-time

Steve Khompela made three changes at the break to change things for Arrows but the second half soon settled into a similar rhythm as the first. City were content to be compact and allow Arrows to enjoy the bulk of possession.

Tashreeq Morris made good on City’s threats when he beat Lakay in a race to a sweet square ball from Ralani who carved through the Arrows defence to set up the striker’s first goal of the season and first for the club.

Arrows finally pulled one back as Knox Mutizwa got himself into the golden boot race with his 13th goal of the season with a well-taken free-kick.

A last-ditch Fielies tackle prevented Mutizwa from making the closing stages a nervy affair for the Citizens and Shitolo squandered a stoppage-time opportunity before the Citizens were awarded a late penalty.

Lakay completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot to consign Arrows to a 4-1 defeat. He is the first Citizens player to score a PSL hat-trick.

Cape Town City’s win was not enough to lift them out of seventh place and Golden Arrows remain 11th having squandered a chance to break into the top eight.

Next up for the Citizens is a meeting with Highlands Park while Golden Arrows face Bloem Celtic in the midweek matchday.
