During his interview on the This is football.Africa podcast, Hunt said Zongo was a handful as a player but great person.

“I had Zongo and Daine Klate on the left wing in the team that won the league. So anyway, Daine Klate got injured and I played Chiefs at the Lucas(Moripe Stadium) and I said ‘Zongo, listen, son, stay wide, one-touch off your feet and put the ball in the box, that’s all you got to do okay and tuck in okay son?’.

Zongo’s tricks used to frustrate Gavin Hunt

“And I look again, he’s playing right wing and right back and I said what are you doing here? and he said he wants to play football and i said you not going to fu***n play in this team, stay on the left wing and we’ll play the ball to you. Anyways, he stayed there, got the ball, crossed it and we won the game.”

Hunt said Zongo would often attempt no-look passes and ‘tricks’ during the games and had to be reprimended several times

“We played Brøndby from Denmark in a friendly. We go to Polokwane, it’s 30 degress, it’s fu***n boiling and we 4-0 up and Zongo is on the bench. So I said ‘Zongo you coming on, Zongo don’t f**k around with the ball wide, just get the ball in the box, it’s all your job you got to do’.

“He made a trick after two minutes of coming in. I stopped the game and took him off, never played and got rid of him,” said Hunt.

‘Zizo’ who was a fan favourite, went on to play for Vasco da Gama, Chippa United and Platinum stars.
