Gavin Hunt is open to Kaizer Chiefs return

Gavin Hunt said Kaizer Chiefs were not patient with him and would have won trophies in his second season in charge.

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt says he is open to going back to Kaizer Chiefs.

The 59-year-old mentor coached Amakhosi between 2020 and 2021 but was given the boot despite helping the club reach the CAF Champions League semi-finals.

Chiefs went on to lose the final 3-0 to Al Ahli.

During an interview with This Is Football Africa, Hunt talked about his stay at Kaizer Chiefs and why the football system is ‘broken.’

Asked if he could consider returning to Kaizer Chiefs, the former Hellenic defender said he would if given the opportunity.

“Yeha, yeah,” Hunt said.

“I mean Peter come on, let’s be honest. We got to the semi-finals of the Champions League. And then they obviously got the final, but I got the bullet on the semi-final.

“I mean it’s a great club, great institution. They need, they needed an overhaul. They’ve done a complete overhaul now since I’ve left,” he said.

Hunt said Kaizer Chiefs were not patient with him and would have won trophies in his second season.

He said at the time of his arrival, the club was banned from the transfer market and did not have the best players around to work with.
