Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt was left feeling helpless after his side ended up drawing a game he felt was there for the taking.

Bidvest Wits followed up their heartbreaking last minute Nedbank Cup exit over the weekend with a 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday night at the Orlando Stadium in the Absa Premiership however Gavin Hunt was adamant his side deserved to win the game.

I feel for the players – Hunt

Bidvest Wits have suffered a torrid 2020 after the club’s top flight status was abruptly sold to GladAfrica Championship side Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila ending their 99-year existence and Hunt feels their bad luck has transcended onto the playing field.

“I felt we really had them, similar to Saturday, you know, you’ve got to be score, we had great chances tonight, certainly the better ones and that one at the end, from our pressing we hit the post, but you know it’s been the story of our season.” Hunt told SuperSport TV.

“If Bidvest Wits had a 15-goal striker, we would have won the league by now. I just feel for the players. They deserve much more than Saturday and tonight. But that’s football. That’s life. But we’ve got to be strong here and keep it together for the next three weeks and plug away.”

Bidvest Wits deserved more from the game

“We’re very disappointed. I thought we should have won the game. With everything that’s gone in our lives, the Bidvest Wits football club, the players, myself, it looks like it was against us again.”

Bidvest Wits leapfrogged Maritzburg United to fifth on the Absa Premiership standings following their draw. They remain 10 points behind log leaders Kaizer Chiefs with a solitary game in hand.

The Clever Boys next turn their attention to Orlando Pirates who they face on Saturday evening at the Ellis Park stadium.
