Sirino part of depleted Sundowns squad for Galaxy tie

The South African understands that Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gaston Sirino is part of the squad to face TS Galaxy.

There’s a new development at Mamelodi Sundowns and it’s reported that midfielder Gaston Sirino is part of the squad to face TS Galaxy.

The South African is led to believe that Sirino has travelled with Sundowns squad to Mbombela for their Carling Knockout Cup tie.

This comes as Sirino has been reportedly keen to secure a move away from Sundowns as he is deemed surplus to requirements.

SIRINO PART OF SUNDOWNS SQUAD FOR GALAXY CLASH

iDiski Times reports that the Uruguay-born midfielder, Sirino could be handed a lifeline by coach Rulani Mokwena.

Sirino was understood to have tabled a transfer request during the recent transfer window, and this publication reported that Mokwena did confirm the developments.

While the 32-year-old is yet to play for the reigning DStv Premiership champions this term, he was a regular last season.

Sirino featured in 27 appearances and scored three goals across all competitions in the previous campaign.

iDiski Times has now learnt that there may have been a twist as Sirino has traveled with Sundowns for the first time this season and could be in contention for their Carling Knockout Cup Round of 16 tie with TS Galaxy,” reports the football publication.

DEPLETED SUNDOWNS READY FOR GALAXY

Furthermore, The South African reported that Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe is ready for war versus Galaxy despite missing key players.

The Bafana international downplayed the fact that Sundowns will not cope without skipper Themba Zwane, Ronwen Williams, Mothobi Mvala, and Teboho Mokoena to mention a few.

“We have a very tight schedule but I think when you sign up for such a big club you have to be ready all the time and whenever the coach needs you, you just have to perform and help the team,” Maboe said as quoted by Sowetan.

“I think everyone is ready to perform and help the team to qualify for the next round.

“We always go into the match to win and knowing that it’s a cup game, I think it’s important to finish in 90 minutes.”

While it remains unclear if Sirino will play for the first time this season, the unavailability of key players could be the reason why he is part of the squad.
