Former Sundowns star Lerato Chabangu: Where is he now?

“I blew all my money” – Former Sundowns star Lerato Chabangu now resembles a shadow of what was once a prolific talent. Where is he now?

No doubt, Mpho Lerato Chabangu had an illustrious career that spanned years in the top-flight league before disappearing from the spotlight.

He was among the best right-wingers, and his unmatched flair made him stand above the rest during his days.

WHAT HAPPENED TO LERATO CHABANGU?

However, after his newfound fame, he lost it all. His illustrious career crumbled, and he blew all his riches before disappearing from the spotlight, leaving many asking for his whereabouts.

CAREER

Chabangu started his footballing career with Pretoria University in 2003.

He later switched the floor to Sundowns in 2005. Lerato Chabangu managed 81 appearances with the club before he joined Supper Sport United in 2009 before being sold by Sundowns in 2011 to Moroka Swallows.

What a bad boy. Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Gordon Igesund once revealed that Lerato Chabangu was the most ill-disciplined player he ever worked with.

In 2015 he joined Chippa United before having a short stint with Mikhado FC. He later joined Pretoria Callies before joining Baberwa FC. However, the club late changed its franchise.

Since then, he has been out of play. However, he made it known that he was keeping himself in shape for the one last dance. He hasn’t retired yet and has considered pursuing coaching and opening up a football foundation.

FINANCIAL WOES AND DIVORCE

In one of his interviews, he revealed that he blew his money on women and cars. Chabangu said: “I blew all my money on useless things because I was always guaranteed a salary the following month.”

He once made headlines when he lost his lavish house in Boksburg. Lerato Chabangu also had his car repossessed. He also used to rent a swanky apartment in Midrand before he went broke.

His pockets went dry, forcing him to move in with his grandmother in Tembisa. Against the backdrop of his career and financial woes, his wife called it quits with him.

NEW CAREER PATH

However, he has since bounced back, trying to find his feet again. He has been vocal about footballing issues over the years.

Chabangu has also been mentoring upcoming stars educating them on how to remain relevant and investing. Since his last two interviews with iDiski and Moja Love, the star is yet to give another update about his new career path and ventures.
