Note: This is an update on Bimenyimana’s exit from Chiefs

Earlier this month, Kaizer Chiefs confirmed they had parted ways with striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana after just one full season with the club.

The Soweto club released a statement to say: “Kaizer Chiefs have come to an agreement with striker, a to part ways after one season. He featured 21 times for Chiefs (17 starts + 4 subs) and found the back of the net 8 times. He will be free to join a team of his choice and we wish him well in his future.”

For quite some time, it had been widely reported that Chiefs were open to selling Bimenyimana with a year still left on his contract, and it’s now quite clear that he left under unhappy circumstances.

In the latest print issue of Soccer Laduma, his agent Rorui Frois slammed the manner in which the towering forward was forced out the door.

“I know that at one stage he asked the coach (then Arthur Zwane) why he wasn’t playing him and maybe that could be one of the reasons (for him being let go), I don’t know. But I had told Caleb to carry on training even if he wasn’t playing. I told him not to confront the coach because those kinds of things can create enemies for you, but player get frustrated…

The player’s representative went on to suggest that the Chiefs job was “too big” for Zwane, while hinting things changed for Bimenyimana after he was confronted by the playmaker.

“For me, that is obvious. You can never confront the coach, no matter what. Zwane is a good coach, but (at) the same time the team might have looked a little big bigger for him.”
