Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Pule Ekstein is not looking for a retun to South Africa football, reports KickOff.

The 29-year-old has – since cutting ties with Azerbaijani outfit Sabah FC – been a subject of reported interest from some of the Absa Premiership’s top sides.

Pule Ekstein indicates his next move

Following his departure from the Glamour Boys, he was linked with moves to his former club’s fiercest rivals, Orlando Pirates, as well as new kids on the block, Cape Town City.

Now having terminated his contract with Sabah by mutual consent, speculation over his next move has once again picked up, with the name of the Buccaneers once again featuring prominently in the chat.

However, he told the publication that he is not looking to make his return to his native country a permanent one, with another stint abroad high on the agenda.

“At the moment my focus is to play overseas,” Ekstein told KickOff.

“Not to say Pirates is a bad team, no, Pirates is a good team. Or any team. I can play in fact at any team whether it’s Highlands, AmaZulu, whatever.

“I think to play overseas the way I see it is you grow as a player, and I see football in a different way. You are exposed to a different style of play. You learn more, and you become a better player.

“I want to go back overseas, you see. Since I was a young boy, I’ve been dreaming of playing overseas. Ja, any time from now I might leave.

“Which country I’m not sure because my agent hasn’t told me anything yet except that options are there. It’s just for him to finalise things.”

Having broken through to the Kaizer Chiefs first team rater belatedly at 24, Ekstein had a fruitful season in the 2018/19 campaign, making 19 league appearances before being released by the club early in the second half of the season.

The player was snapped by Sabah, where he impressed in his very short stint.

The attacking midfielder played 13 league matches for the club, contributing to seven goals in the form of three goals and four assists.

Now a free agent, his last competitive game was the cup quarterfinal defeat suffered by Sabah at the hands of FK Qabala, where he ran on in the final 23 minutes of the fixture.
