The club in question, Simba SC has made a significant move by securing Fadlu Davids as their head coach ahead of the upcoming season. This decision underscores the club’s commitment to bolstering its coaching setup with experienced professionals. Davids, who previously served at Raja Athletic Club, caught the attention of Simba’s hierarchy during interviews, prompting swift negotiations despite his existing contract.

New Coaching Setup Unveiled

Fadlu Davids has agreed to a lucrative two-year deal with Simba SC. Joining him are Darian Wilken, appointed as assistant coach, and Mueez Kajee, who will serve as performance analyst. Both Wilken and Kajee were integral parts of Raja’s technical team during the previous season. Additionally, Simba SC has enlisted the expertise of Riedoh Berdien, former strength and conditioning coach for Mamelodi Sundowns Berdien also previously associated with Young Africans in Tanzania, to further strengthen their technical staff.

Komphela also made the shortlist

While considering options for this coaching position, Simba SC reportedly explored the possibility of appointing Steve Komphela as head coach for the new season. Komphela, known for his tenure at Moroka Swallows and more recently at Golden Arrows, generated interest after achieving commendable results with Arrows in a challenging season.

Despite rumours, Simba SC did not formally approach Komphela. Instead, the club’s board continued deliberations on potential candidates, including ASEC Mimosas head coach Julien Chevalier. This decision comes after Simba’s disappointment in failing to secure a top-two finish under former coach Abdelhak Benchikha. Which would have guaranteed qualification for the CAF Champions League.

Davids at the Simba helm

With ex-Orlando Pirates mentor Fadlu Davids at the helm and a reinforced technical team in place. Simba SC are earing up for an ambitious season ahead. The addition of Davids, Wilken, Kajee, and Berdien signifies the club’s strategic intent to enhance coaching expertise and optimise player performance. As preparations intensify, Simba SC aims to mount a strong challenge in domestic competitions while striving for success on the continental stage. Davids will also once again lead his own team, since his last stint as a head coach at Maritzburg United. Where he failed to keep the Team of Choice up in the DStv Premiership, relegating them to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Stay tuned for further developments and announcements as Simba SC prepares to kick off the new season with renewed vigour and determination.
