It was in 2021 when Billiat hung up his international boots. His former teammate for both Zimbabwe and Chiefs, Willard Katsande had already hinted at a possible return for the winger. In a rather cryptic post on X, the former defensive midfielder said that the Yadah FC star will be ‘influential’ against Bafana Bafana.

Billiat back for Zimbabwe

Bafana Bafana and Zimbabwe are set to clash in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on 11 June in Bloemfontein. That post by Katsande sent many football followers into a frenzy. This is because, Billiat had not announced anything pertaining to coming out of International football retirement. But because the duo are close, it was believed the former tough as nails midfielder may know something on the matter.

That theory then proved to be true as Billiat was named in a 23-man Zimbabwe squad on Tuesday. Should the 33-year-old play against Bafana, it would be the first time playing in the country since his Chiefs days. He won’t be the only former Amakhosi player in the squad, which features Teenage Hadebe

First time back since Chiefs days

Billiat has returned to play his football in Zimbabwe for the first time in 14 years this season. After leaving Chiefs, he spent a long time clubless before failing trials at SuperSport United. He has since been trying to wrestle back some momentum in his career at Yadah FC. It now remains to be seen if he will still have what it takes to make an impact at International level.

Billiat will have two chances to play for Zimbabwe again, the first at the Orlando Stadium against Lesotho. That game will be on the 7th of June. They will then travel to Bloemfontein to take on Bafana.
