Ex-Kaizer Chiefs duo unwanted by PSL clubs?

With the new season already in full swing, Former Kaizer Chiefs duo of Eric Mathoho and Khama Billiat are yet to find clubs.

Former Kaizer Chiefs duo of Eric Mathoho and Khama Billiat are yet to find teams this season.

Mathoho (33) was released by the Glamour Boys after the conclusion of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season. The former Bafana defender spent 11 successful years with Amakhosi and has won four major trophies since signing from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2012

And with the new season already in full swing, the tall defender is still clubless.

Mathoho’s been clubless since he left Kaizer Chiefs

In July, Mathoho trained with SuperSport United during the 2023/24 pre-season but Matsatsantsa coach Gavin Hunt, who coached him at Chiefs decided not to sign him.

“He came in, Erick asked me to train, and I said okay, but I know we’re pretty full in that position where he plays,” Hunt said.

Mathoho also trained with Polokwane City but again the club refused to sign him, saying the defender doesn’t suit their style of play.

At his peak, “Tower” was amongst the best PSL defenders, and helped Chiefs to two cup doubles between 2012 and 2015.

Billiat on the otherhand, has not played football since he unceremoniously left Amakhosi. The former Zimbabwe international was rumoured to have signed with Egyptian giants Zamalek but the reports proved to be false. The 33-year-old is currently clubless after he reportedly refused a salary cut from Kaizer Chiefs end of June.

The striker/winger is yet to make a public appearance since leaving Amakhosi.
