Ex-Chiefs defender to reunite with former coach at PSL rivals?

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Erick Mathoho is now training with a PSL rival and could reunite with former coach Gavin Hunt.

Ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender Erick Mathoho could reunite with former coach Gavin Hunt at PSL rivals, SuperSport United as they search for a defender.

Mathoho is reportedly training with the Tshwane-based SuperSport under the watchful eye of Hunt who is now looking to bolster his defence and could turn to the former Chiefs stopper.

Mathoho was released by Chiefs last month and he is now searching for a new club, he has just resurfaced at the side mentored by the experienced coach, Hunt.

EX-CHIEFS DEFENDER TO REUNITE WITH COACH AT PSL RIVAL

The South African exclusively gathered that the towering defender, Mathoho has already joined a new club but he is yet to be officially unveiled.

While it was reported in Mzansi that he could join TS Galaxy in Mbombela, it seems he will now be playing for the former Nedbank Cup and MTN8 champions, SuperSport.

A local football publication published that the former Bloemfontein Celtic star could find a new football home in the South African capital city.

“This publication can confirm that ‘Tower’ is training with SuperSport United and hopes to join the Tshwane giants,” reports iDiski Times.

“With Matsatsantsa participating in the CAF-interclub competition this season, Mathoho could add more experience as he has been to the CAF Champions League final with Amakhosi.”

The 33-year-old central defender spent more than a decade at Naturena with Chiefs and scooped four trophies, including two Premier Soccer League titles.

EX-CHIEFS DEFENDER JOINS A NEW CLUB

As reported by this publication earlier this month, sources indicated that the Venda-speaking central defender could be headed for a new home in Mpumalanga.

As a senior player at Chiefs, Mathoho was starved of game time under demoted coach Arthur Zwane and the fans also expressed displeasure, saying the club didn’t respect him.

“Yes, there is an update on Mathoho. He has signed with a new club but I must respect the club and wait for them to announce it,” said a source to The South African.

“We can speak later this afternoon but like I am saying, we must wait for his new club to do the honourable thing.”

As things stand, it remains to be seen which DStv Premiership or PSL outfit will finally win the race for the former Bafana Bafana defender’s signature.
