Orlando Pirates look to protect Mohau Nkota’s value

Belgian outfit Standard Liege are tracking Orlando Pirates youngster Mohau Nkota. Can the Buccaneers ward off interest in their promising attacker? If not, can they fetch a significant fee?

LIEGE KEEPING AN EYE ON NKOTA

According to SoccerLaduma, Standard Liege is monitoring the situation of 19-year-old Pirates attacker Mohau Nkota. The ten-time Belgian champions are a shadow of their former selves, languishing in mid-table in the Pro League, some 38 points off the title pace this term.

“Indications are that Liege wanted the 19-year-old (Nkota) without even assessing him via a trial. This as they believe he is ready to make the step up. Soccer-Laduma were informed an offer would soon be submitted in the coming weeks or days. However, upon further digging, it appears as though the two parties are yet to formally discuss a potential transfer. Although the invitation has been ruled out at this stage. With information reaching the Siya crew being that Liege are huge admirers.” Wrote the publication.

Orlando Pirates move to protect Nkota’s transfer value

Mohau Nkota hasn’t played a single minute in the first-team for the Buccaneers yet. However, the club are aware of Liege’s interest and readying a new four-year deal for the attacker. Bucs staff are aware of the 19-year-old’s potential, as well as how disastrous it would be if they lost him to Europe for a small transfer fee. Pirates sold now-Burnley striker Lyle Foster to Monaco in 2019 for €1.2m. Considering his current value, that fee could and possibly should have been significantly larger.

The Buccaneers are currently third in the DStv Diski Challenge, three points adrift of leaders Sundowns with nine matches to play. Nkota produced a scintillating display in January when Pirates beat Downs 4-1.
