Kaizer Chiefs conceded a late goal against Mamleodi Sundowns on Wednesday, 9 August to lose their DStv Premiership clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

The match finished 2-1 in favour of defending league champions Masandawana.

Mamelodi Sundowns opened the scoring in the 21st-minute thanks to a goal from new signing, Brazilian midfielder Lucas Costa.

Ashley du Preez looked to have saved the Glamour Boys from defeat with an 84th-minute equaliser, however Masandawana were not to be denied and Neo Maema grabbed a 90th-minute winner.

Kaizer Chiefs now have just one point from their opening two 2023/24 DStv Premiership matches having been held to a goalless draw by minnows Chippa United in their opener last weekend.

By contrast, with six points after two matches, defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns have made a perfect start to the defence of their title having also beaten Sekhukhune United last Friday.

Amakhosi will next be in MTN8 quarter-final action away from home against Cape Town City FC on Sunday, 13 August at 15:00 while Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Swallows in the same tournament on Saturday, 12 August, also at 15:00.
